Just an introduction I did to the Fan fiction section when I started it in 1998
Join us why don't you stranger? Make yourself comfortable. Get a mulled cider and pull a chair close to the fire. Its not that cold you say? Ah, but its not just the cold you must protect against, but from the encroaching darkness as well. There are things that walk the Oerth again and no one should be alone in the dark.
Do I know tales of these things you ask? Well of course, I'm a story teller by trade. My name is Ashtbor of Furyondy, I'm sure you have heard of me? NO?? Humph, well I can see that the arts are lost on one of your ilk. Well, yes, I suppose a drink would be a good peace offering and right neighborly of you. Spinning tales is thirsty work. Lets just forget that little spat and move on shall we?
Well now let me see what tale would you like to hear tonight? I know so many that I am now starting to write them all down. My memory isn't what it used to be, you know. I'm putting them to scroll just in case Not that I cant keep up with those young fools out singing and dancing and telling stories that would make any self respecting talespinner die from shame. Its all bawdy stories full of wine, women, and song nowadays. Not that I don't know a few of those mind you! Its just that no one remembers the old tales anymore. And now that things from those tales are starting to come true....
What? Of course I know what I'm talking about. Haven't you heard what is happening in the Flannaess? There are great and terrible things afoot. There are countries which are no more, and new countries that have sprung up overnight. There is evil walking the land yet again and people that flock to worship at the feet of evil beings. Mysterious happenings plague the land. I have heard things that would make your hair gray from the telling. This is a time of unspeakable evil!
What? You don't need to whisper! Oh yes, I understand. Its hard to talk of these things without lowering your voice and moving closer to the fire. But don't despair! In answer to these hard times there is hope! Goodness is still very much alive! There are adventurers going forth to meet these monsters face to face daily. They are rushing forth in droves to answer the call of the unexplained. There is so much good in this land that it may still very well defeat the growing evil and restore the balance as it should be. Not that I would recommend you running out and getting yourself killed, mind you. I think half of these fools going forth will never be seen again. They mean well ,but don't have the brains the gods gave a goose. What? Oh I'm rambling again aren't I?
Well, run and fetch me another drink would you? Ah , that is so very good. Lets see...pick any of these tale you would like to hear. Some are long some are short. Some are happy and some sad. But they all have one thing in common. They each contain characters that have a story that needs to be heard. Many are quite noble, and alas, some are just as wicked. It is up to you to get what the lessons of these stories are if any. I am not a priest to go making conversions or teaching lessons on GodsDay. I'm a humble teller of tales. Now which would you like to hear? Ah an excellent choice! Now sit back and close your eyes and picture what I'm about to tell...........
